Challenge
To upgrade an old control panel with components that are now obsolete. The machine was essential to a production process that had no existing drawings and needed a workable solution.
Solution
Our design engineer spent 3 days on-site to ensure a full understanding of the machine and all user operations.
This allowed for a panel to be tailored to the machine and the user. The new control panel was designed around the existing one, but had the PLC controls which fully configured to the existing machine.
The Siemens PLC installed was programmed to:
- Control the full machine operation
- Control all of the safety related equipment with safety related dual channel relays
- Store up-to 30 recipes
- Data Log diagnostics
- Contain settings for the burners/ovens
- Collect data from ovens i.e temperatures
The Control panel has a small Siemens 7” HMI on the front which is used to control all of the motors and parameters from a user-friendly screen. The control panel included new controls for the burners and the control of these was incorporated within the PLC.
Result
The client now has a modern, user friendly system that is future proof for many years to come.
